Getting to Know Your Sacral Chakra

June 26, 2018

Okay, but seriously. What is it, and where do I find it?

What the Sacral Chakra Is

The second of the chakras, the Sacral Chakra is linked to the emotional body, creativity, and sensuality. From the element of water, the energy of the Sacral Chakra is often characterized by your flow and flexibility - especially when engaged in Vinyasa.

When it comes to emotions, feelings, creativity, relationships, the expression of sexuality, sensual pleasure, feeling the outer and inner worlds, as well as fantasies - the Sacral Chakra rules these from a psychological and behavioral standpoint.

Opening your Sacral Chakra helps you feel the world around you and set up a more solid foundation.

Known in Sanskrit as Svadhisthana, it translates to “Her favorite standing place.”

Where the Sacral Chakra Is Located

The location of the sacral chakra is about three inches below the navel in the front, and below the sacrum in your back, at the center of your lower belly.

The Sacral Chakra can expand in location to the genital area, especially at the level of ovaries for women and the testicles for men. This is because your world may more expanded when it comes to sensuality, thus your chakra can be expanded as well.

The more open you are in the world, especially in mind, body, and soul - the more open your chakras and that can attribute to a more sensual pleasure when identifying with your Sacral Chakra.

The Sacral Chakra is the most highly focused area of our feminine energy. No matter what gender you identify with, everyone has feminine and masculine energies that are not gender specific.

This is the location of our passions where we generate and produce, not only children, but creative projects. The Hindu Goddess of Abundance presides over the Sacral Chakra. Unbelievably generous, our Sacral Chakra is best aligned when we open ourselves up and offer all that we have to give the universe and those around us - especially our own selves.

Now that you know this, you can nod when the teacher in your yoga class tells you to "focus on your sacral chakra"
