If you’ve been to one of my classes or read anything on this blog, you probably already know that my passion is helping people live happier, healthier lives. It’s why I do what I do, and it brings me such incredible joy.
With that passion for helping others comes a desire for consistently learning more - learning better yoga postures to help you alleviate pain in your stiff knees, perhaps, or finding the right medication posture that allows you to deeply relax and let go. Continuous learning is what it’s called in most industries, and while it’s not required to maintain certification as a yoga teacher, I feel it’s important so that I can always serve you better.
I’ve recently completed my Level 1 Reiki training, and I’m eager to get started on Level 2. Before I dive deep into that, though, I wanted to share a little bit about what Reiki is with you. I’ll keep updating the blog as I continue my learning process, but I would also love to connect if you are interested in learning more and discovering if I can help you!
Reiki is a healing technique developed in Japan that is used to heal mental and physical trauma. It also supports mental clarity and spiritual well-being, but that’s a little harder to measure.
“Rei” is a Japanese word that touches on the concept of the higher intelligence we all can tap into, that guides the functioning of the universe. “Ki” refers to the life force energy that flows through every living being on the planet - animals, plants and humans. You might have heard it called ‘qi’ or ‘chi’ in many places.
The combination of these two words is what defines reiki: the spiritually guided life-force energy.
Reiki is practiced by channelling life force energy through the hands of the practitioner into and onto the person they’re working with. I think this is the best explanation I’ve found, and I’m not sure I could put it better:
“It's said that the aforementioned spiritual guidance enables the Reiki to flow through the affected parts of the subject's energy field and charges them with positive energy. It raises awareness in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are contained. This causes the negative energy—such as stress, anxiety, physical pain, sadness, confusion, etc.—to loosen its grip, allowing the touch of the Reiki healer to swoop in and clarify the energy pathways.”
Reiki helps clear the energy pathways to allow the flow of life force energy to return to normal. It’s physical, mental and emotional healing, and I’m looking forward to helping my clients live happier, healthier lives in more ways.
