Pose of the Month - Warrior II

Did you know that the Warrior II pose is said to increase your feeling of security, sense of self confidence, and courage to take on the day? Warrior II is a great pose for those who need to channel some frustrations, as well. Warrior II is meant to open the hips and chest while strengthening the legs and thighs.

 

The Warrior II pose also helps improve circulation while developing a better sense of concentration. When you are ready to balance your chakras and re-ground yourself, you should get into the Warrior II. This is a great pose to do in the middle of the day when you lose your focus, as well. You’ll promote an all over sense of energy throughout your entire body and be ready to take on the day!  

 

  • Stand on your mat with feet hip width apart, arms at your side, and spine tall.

  • Spread your legs into a straddle pose, about 3 to 4 feet apart.

  • Reach your arms out to the sides, parallel to the ground and palm down.

  • Turn your fee to the right, so the right foot turns to face directly to the right side of the mat and your left foot is slightly right in 45 degree angle.

  • Bend your right knee, centering it over your foot, lowering into a warrior pose.

  • Look to your right hand; only turn your head as far as it is comfortable.

  • Inhale deep into your diaphragm for a count of 3 and exhale on a count of 3.

  • Repeat this for three to five long, slow breaths.

  • Exhale and straighten your right leg.

  • Repeat the pose on the left side holding it for as many breaths as you did on first pose.

  • Raise your left leg to come out of Warrior II.

 

Enjoy the full-body integration of this pose and once finished, you should feel energized to conquer your daily goals and aspirations!
