You probably already know one of the oils I’m going to recommend, but the other two might surprise you. Lavender is always top of the list, and for good reason.
These other essential oils are equally as amazing, though, so give them a try soon!
This isn’t just an old wives’ tale – the effects of lavender on sleep have been studied extensively. One study, in particular, observed that the inhalation (or ‘aromatherapy’ use) of lavender blended with other essential oils significantly improved the sleep quality of patients in the ICU. The study concluded that aromatherapy is effective in maintaining the length and quality of sleep despite the stress of the situation. Those patients who didn’t receive the aromatherapy treatment had significantly worse sleep!
One of the other essential oils in the blend used in the study mentioned above was Roman Chamomile. This essential oil has a soft floral scent and is excellent for creating a peaceful sleeping atmosphere. Roman Chamomile is known for it’s calming, soothing and relaxing properties.
Lastly, I am excited to share a beloved essential oil for sleep! It was introduced to me as “Liquid Ambien” and even though I viewed it with a bit of skepticism, I have heard many people sing its praises. This essential oil is distilled from the roots of the vetiver plant and it has an earthy, woody smell. Vetiver mixed with Roman Chamomile and Lavender makes the perfect blend for a diffuser. You can also rub a drop of each together onto the soles of your feet before putting on socks and slipping under the sheets.
