Live a Happier, more Balanced Life with Yoga

Want to bring more happiness and balance into your life? Consider incorporating some of the teachings of an ancient yogi into your daily life. The eight-limbed path was developed to offer guidelines for regular people to live a meaningful and purposeful life.

 

How do you live a meaningful and purposeful life? By following a moral and ethical code of conduct and having self-discipline.

 

Easy, right?

 

Yes and no.

 

Most importantly, I’m not going to dump a bunch of weird mumbo jumbo onto you. First, of all, it can be kind of dry and heady. Second, that’s not what you’re here for. My goal is to help you live a happier, healthier life. Most of the happy and healthy feelings come when you’re moving your body and feel physically healthy. That’s just one part of it, though.

 

I mentioned the “Eight-Limbed Path” a second ago, and I wanted to briefly describe what it is (without using a dictionary full of unfamiliar words). The first four of the eight paths of yoga are:

 

Morality

Essentially, it’s the Golden Rule: Be compassionate, truthful and selfless.

 

Self-Discipline and Spiritual Observances

Do you keep your space and yourself clean and tidy? Do you meditate or take time to reflect on a higher power? These are both basic examples of Self-Discipline and Spiritual Observances.

 

Physical Practice

The postures practiced in yoga help you stay healthy, mobile, balanced and happy.

 

Breath Control

Your emotions, your mind and your breathing are all connected. Have you ever had to remember to take a few deep breaths to calm down? Breathing is something we take for granted, but has an enormous effect on how we feel and what we do.

 

These first four parts of the “Eight-Limbed Path” in yoga are focused on developing an awareness of self and gaining mastering over our bodies. 

 

They are not difficult to incorporate into your daily life, as you can see!
